Through “Lions Club Eyes Vision Improvements in Africa” Lauren McDonald helps to show that the Lions Club is living up to their expectations. This club works to give glasses to those who may not be able to afford them. Lauren McDonald uses this article to describe how the members are able to do so. She states that just last year the Lions Club was able to donate around 2,000 glasses to Malawi, Africa. Following this, the author states that some of these villages do not have running water she is able to secure the attention of the audience. The article then leads into the problems that the members still face after taking the glasses to Africa. Even though the glasses are donated it doesn’t mean that they will be helpful, and that is because they do not know the prescription of the kids. The article shows that the Lions Club is also able to help with this by donating a Sure Sight Vision Screener which allows someone to capture a prescription from up to fourteen inches away. Lauren McDonald not only used this article to show that the Lions Club works hard to give back but also uses the article to make people feel as though they should help with the donations. By giving the description of Africa and some of the difficulties the villages face, she is able to grab onto the emotional side of the readers. This, in turn, makes them feel as though they should help out.
